Africa Hope Academy

Africa Hope Academy is a state-registered Christian school for children in Kenya (Sikhendu ward, Kiminini sub-county in Trans-Nzoia County). In this area, there is a high rate of displaced people after the civil unrest in 2007/2008 and education in the public sector is inadequate. It is not uncommon in public schools for one teacher to teach up to 65 pupils at a time. The African Hope Academy does not charge school fees and mainly takes in socially disadvantaged children in order to protect them from child labor, contact with drugs and abuse. The school currently has 120 pupils aged between 3 and 14. Lessons last until 4 p.m. and the children also receive a warm lunch every day. The school is financed solely by donations and grants. The operating costs for salaries, transportation to school, lunch, school and teaching materials and school uniforms add up to € 40 per child per month. Waali would like to cover the annual costs for 15 pupils in the coming school year.
